stone. Our standard units are an economical veneer
product that far exceeds the standard set forth by
our industry.
Our plant utilizes the finest raw material and the
most up-to-date technology available. Our mix design
is developed
to be used in both our custom cast stone as well as
our standard units, making Custom Cast Stone "Your
Single Source."
Our standard units have a fine grained texture similar to natural
cut stone with crisp clean edges. All of our products are vapor
cured to increase strength, reduce efflorescence and provide
long-term durability. Founded in 1993, we believe it is our
experience that enables us to produce the finest veneer stone

Custom Cast Stone Standard Unit Masonry Veneer |
| • Cast Stone Stone's
Standard Unit Masonry Veneer exceeds the requirements
for most masonry veneer. Our product may be used at or
below
grade.
• Product to have a minimum of 5,000 P.S.I.
• Product to have absorption of 6% or
less.
• Manufacturer to have a minimum of ten years' experience in Cast Stone
Production.
• Manufacturer to Vapor Cure in 100% humidity for 12 hours which creates
higher strengths. The carbon dioxide
content
in
vapor
provides
carbonization at the surface, to minimize efflorescence.

Helpful Technical Guidelines
Masonry veneer units up to 16" in height can be anchored using traditional masonry wall ties. Units greater than 16" in height should use stainless steel anchors.
We recommend the use of control joints to be no more than 20' 0" on center, at
all window openings and inside corners and 4' 0" from all outside corners.
The use of a bond break between different materials is recommended. Visquene is an adequate material for a bond break and will also keep the stone wall clean throughout construction. Make sure to clean the brick first and then cut the visquene off and wash the stone. This will eliminate streaking from the cleaning agent running off the brick and onto the stone.
We recommend using Sure Kleen 600 to clean the stone. Soak the wall, apply cleaning
agent with a bristle brush, scrub and thoroughly rinse with clean water. Never
use muriatic acid or a high pressure sprayer to clean masonry. For additional
cleaning information, see Cleaning of Cast Stone.
Controlling Movement in Masonry Veneers
Combining Cast Stone masonry and clay masonry within
one wythe of masonry requires special detail to accommodate anticipated
movement. In veneers, cracking is primarily an aesthetic issue.
Any water that penetrates the veneer through cracks between the
two materials drains down the cavity and is directed out the
wall via flashing and weeps.
The goal is to eliminate this cracking through vertical movement joints, horizontal
joint reinforcement and slip planes. In veneers, because the two materials move
differently, it is particularly important that wall ties support the band as
well as the wall panel above and below the band. In addition, using a type "N" mortar
will ensure that if cracks occur, they will take place in the mortar joint rather
than through the unit.
A slip plane incorporated between the Cast Stone and clay masonry will allow
unrestrained longitudinal movement between the two materials. This can be accomplished
by placing building paper, polyethylene, flashing or similar material in the
horizontal bed joints above and below the Cast Stone. When slip planes are used,
joint reinforcement should be incorporated into the Cast Stone band. The exposed
mortar joint at the top and bottom should be raked back sealed with an appropriate
sealant to prevent water penetration.
Breaking bond does not affect the compressive strength of the wall and generally does not affect the stability of veneer wythes. The weight of the masonry, anchorage and the frictional properties at the interface provide for stability.

Ladder-type Reinforcement/Crack Control in Masonry Veneers
Cast Stone banding and veneer in a brick wall system
are commonly used in design among architects today. Cast Stone
can be used successfully without cracking problems if designed
and built properly. This holds true whether the backup wall is
made of concrete masonry or stud backup.
If you are using these units in a veneer wall, you have to use the code required
anchors at the designated spacing. The additional ladder reinforcing in the 4" exterior
is not code mandated, but if you wish to minimize shrinkage cracking — this
additional reinforcing should be applied. The minimal cost is certainly worth
the quality finished product. (Masonry Advisory Council)

Recommended Uses:
• As a crack control in a single wythe, composite and cavity walls.
• As horizontal reinforcement to assure predictable flexural and axial, tensile wall strength.
• As a reinforcing for stack bond masonry.
• As a continuous tie for two wythe, composite or cavity walls.
| Movement Notes |
Vertical control joints with 4" Cast Stone should be used as follows:
1.) Spaced at 20' O.C.
2.) Placed at every inside corner.
3.) Placed 4' 0" from one side of every outside corner.
4.) At all window openings.
